In the heart of Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton
Head to Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, where the heart of the village is well worth the stop. Savour tranquility through memories, nature, community, and maple.
Itinerary
Discover the histories of the shops in the heart of the tight-knit village of Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, a small, peaceful place nestled in nature, where one comes to unwind. It isn’t simply a village, but a community filled with histories: when standing in front of the heritage church built in 1842, you will envision its construction as well as the celebrations that were held there since.
Continue unwinding at the Municipal Park in summer, winter or when the trees wear their brightest red and orange leaves in the fall. Walk your dog - yes, dogs are welcome! - or try out the fitness path: ten stations devised by the Municipality to encourage working out in the outdoors.
Next stop: the Coop du Grand-Bois. This isn’t merely a café-bistro, but a community crossroad conceived and operated by the citizens to foster networking, reinforce one’s sense of belonging and liven up daily rural life. There, one can eat, read, or mail a letter. There are also sociocultural workshops, a mini grocery store, a library and even a corner for local artists. In short, it is a place to gather and to strengthen the village, not only through food, but also the care shown to others. Indeed, the Coop also runs Meals-on-Wheels, prepares food baskets and delivers low-priced meals to elderly and vulnerable persons.
Finally, there is a small family sugar shack: l’Érablière du lac Libby. The aroma of wood and syrup welcomes you like a childhood memory. The boutique is open year-round and visits/tastings are by appointment. Sugaring off season is in high gear from mid-February to the end of April. Here, you will find out how we have learned, transmitted, adapted… and why the taste of maple continues to deliver, every time, a small miracle. Calling ahead before visiting is recommended.
